Osiris II from Cermak F3K competition models now available from T9
Osiris II is a hand launch glider designed for a circular throw technique and competition in FAI category F3K. The overall goal was to develop a successful and practical high performance successor of Gladiator II and a replacement of Osiris F3K gliders, utilizing the latest achievements in aerodynamics and production technology.
The model design and construction is derived from its predecessor, Gladiator II, however it includes many changes and improvements in order to achieve the following goals:
- Good flight characteristics and performance that will satisfy all RC airplane flyers, including the most demanding pilots flying F3K contests.
- Good flight stability and maneuverability.
- Superior glide ratio (L/D) and minimum sink.
- Speed range that allows an efficient high speed search for lift and a good wind penetration, low speed thermalling and a docile approach for landing.
- Ability to achieve high circular throw launches.
- Sturdy construction.
- Reasonable price.
- ARF (Almost Ready to Fly) kit that allows quick and easy model completion. (The kit includes all required parts except adhesives and RC equipment.)
WING
The wing platform differs slightly from Gladiator II and is closer to the wing platform of Osiris.
Osiris II wing has a new airfoil developed by Mark Drela – AG455ct at the root and the airfoil is progressively changing toward the tip to assure good aerodynamic characteristics.
Production of a hollow, one piece wing is done in CNC cut molds that include winglets at both wingtips. Wing molds are made from a special hard material that guarantees very high airfoil accuracy (0.05 mm) and a perfectly strait and symmetrical wing.
Winglets have a dual purpose - aerodynamic, to reduce the wing induced drag and as wing pegs, to hold the model during circular throws.
Both wingtips are reinforced to allow either winglet to be used as a throwing peg. Standard airplane can be therefore used by LH or RH throwers.
Wing skins are standard sandwich - fiberglass / balsa / fiberglass. Diagonal carbon strips under the outer layer of the top and bottom skins are forming a carbon fiber diagonal net that is increasing torsion stiffness of the wing. Center section of the wing is reinforced with carbon fiber cloth.
The main spar consists of a balsa web with vertical grains and carbon caps. The main spar web is also reinforced with carbon fibers at the center section of the wing.
The wing is very thin, especially close to the trailing edge and therefore ailerons (flaperons) web and the wing auxiliary web at the ailerons hinge line are made of a carbon fiber hose. This increases the ailerons stiffness and prevents ailerons flutter.
Ailerons hinge line is located on the bottom skin of the wing.
Ailerons are controlled by push rods and servos in a customary arrangement on the bottom of the wing.
FUSELAGE
Osiris II fuselage is a completely new design concept and construction. It was developed with a goal to reduce the weight and increase the fuselage stiffness and sturdiness.
The whole fuselage is a carbon fiber shell molded in a CNC cut mold. Integral part of the fuselage is a little pylon that supports a flying stab. The outer layer of the fuselage carbon shell is a unidirectional carbon that increases the fuselage stiffness required during circular throws.
Front of the fuselage is comparable with Gladiator II in size, however it is a standard configuration with a carbon fiber canopy, providing plenty of space for RC equipment installation.
TAIL SURFACES
Rudder and horizontal flying stab are supplied fully shaped and ready for installation. Both surfaces are controlled by pull-pull cables.
Flying stab is divided at the centerline and can be easily removed for transportation.
PAINT
Osiris II can be supplied in a color scheme according to the customer wishes.
Following are the standard paint versions:
Wing painted on the top and bottom, leading edge and/or wingtips painted.
Fuselage painted in front part. Rear part is without paint.
Tails are pre-cut and without foil.
Model without any paint. (Wing and tail surfaces apper as a balsa with a transparent finish ).
Other color schemes (stripes etc,) are possible at an added cost.
